Key Stage 4
During the course of Year 10 pupils are guided through a detailed career planning unit of work. This unit focuses particularly on decision-making. Pupils also complete Cognitive Ability Tests and normal school examinations in all subjects studied at Key Stage 3.
Learning for Life and Work (LLW) is a statutory requirement of the Revised Curriculum and has three contributory strands -
Education for Employability, Local and Global Citizenship and Personal Development. We have introduced LLW to the Year 11 Curriculum with specific timetabled lessons for each of the contributory strands.
At present all pupils study English, Maths, PE, Science, RE, Learning for Life & Work and Careers. A wide range of options, both academic and applied, are available. Pupils choose from this range after discussion with their parents and careers staff. The options available include: Art & Design, Business Communications, Child Development, Design & Technology, Drama, Geography, History, ICT, Modern Languages, Motor Vehicle & Road User Studies, Music, PE (GCSE), A range of Occupational Studies courses are also available and, if advised, pupils may also choose from these. Some of these are based within the school while others are delivered by the North West Regional College.
School Based: Occupational Studies- Construction, Digital Technology, Horticulture, Hospitality & Catering, Media and Office Administration.
Based at North West Regional College: Construction, Hairdressing & Beauty and Motor Vehicle Studies.
The Sixth Form
St. Brigid's College is an active member of Foyle Learning Community. We work in collaboration with other schools in the area to provide students with a broad range of subject options for Post 16 studies.
Students have the opportunity to study for GCE A Levels, GCE Applied A Levels and BTEC National Awards either at St. Brigid's College or through a combination of study at St. Brigid's College and one of our partner schools (Foyle Learning Community). At present pupils from St. Brigid's also attend St. Columb's College and Thornhill College to study 'A' level subjects.
A wide selection of 'A' level subjects are available for these two year courses. Students have been very successful in Business Studies, Science, Sport, I.C.T and Moving Image Arts.
Post 16 Bridging Programme
Students achieving up to 4 subjects in GCSE at Grade C and above have the opportunity to continue Post 16 studies with a BTEC First Diploma in either Business or Health & Social Care. Successful completion of these one year courses allows students to progress to 'A' level studies.
Enrichment Courses
The College in partnership with the North West Regional College and NWCLD offers a wide and interesting selection of Sixth Form enrichment courses.
